“She rolls over, abandoning this pointless parody of sleep. Gropes for her clothes. A small boy’s black Fruit Of The Loom T-shirt, Thoroughly shruken, a thin gray V-necked pullover purchased by the half-dozen from a supplier to New England prep schools, and a new and oversized pair of black 501′s, every trademark carefully removed. Even the buttons on these have been ground flat, featureless, by a puzzled Korean lock-smith, in the Villiage, a week ago”
I really liek this passage it shows how truely unique Cayce is.
-abandoning this pointless parody of sleep–This shows how bad her sleeping conditions were and how tired she was so she didnt really care.
-a boy’s black fruit of the loom shirt–why did she wear boys clothes when it was just a plain black shirt
-a new and oversized pair of black 501′s–she has a very wierd style, she bought her pants big, reminds me of leo fergison
-every trademark carefully removed-she removed every logo when her job was to judge logo’s. maybe that is why she did it so she could look at logo’s just a little less. enhances her wierd style.
-Even the buttons on these have been ground flat–this seemed really a little overboard to me, but i guess she really hated those logo’s. i thought she could of just covered them up instead of paying money to have them grounded down.
-featureless– her clothes were featureless, she wore solid colors and nothing flashy. and especially no logos.
-puzzled Korean lock-smith–he was probabily wondering the same thing i was, why was she paying him to ground down the logos when she could have covered them up?
my favorite theme was how she removed all the logos, her clothes were featureless, and her jet lag made her really tired. her clothes showed how she refused to conform to society i think. she didnt wear any stylish clothes even, featureless, no bright colors. she looks like a boy. and also how her soul didnt catch up to her yet. damiens place was not that nice i got from this. the author expects us to think deep about cayce, she’s unique.
I completely agree with you when you say Cayce is deep and unique. You get that from the first page when reading. She’s different and doesn’t want to conform. She looks into things with deep thought and doesn’t just skim the surface.
